Gun-wielding suspect taken into custody after domestic call on city's north side

  Ashely/ Vigo County Jail By Lucy Perry Indiana Central News An armed Terre Haute m an was arrested for allegedly battering a woman at a residence on the city's north side Saturday morning, after police say she had confronted him about taking money intended for the children. Treyveon Q. Ashley, 26, was booked into the Vigo County Jail around noon. He is facing several felony charges, including: domestic battery in the presence of child, criminal recklessness, theft of firearm, intimidation, invasion of privacy and pointing a firearm. Terre Haute Police Department officers were dispatched to the home in the 2400 block of Garfield Avenue around 11:30 a.m. According to scanner traffic at the time, the suspect was allegedly walking inside the residence with a gun in his hand. Two young children were reportedly inside at the time, as well. Officials with the department said the situation could have ended worse, but quick-acting officers at the scene resolved

Pedestrian hospitalized after being struck by allegedly impaired driver in Terre Haute

Jail By Lucy Perry Indiana Central News A pedestrian was hospitalized with serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle in Terre Haute Tuesday evening. The driver, Donald J. Whitaker, 34, of Terre Haute, was booked into the Vigo County Jail around 9:30 p.m. He is charged with operating with a controlled substance causing serious injury, a level 5 felony. Emergency crews responded incident at the intersection of 35th Street and Wabash Avenue around 5 p.m. Further information on the victim has not been released.

Federal inmate accused of first degree murder at Terre Haute prison

                              Lucy Perry photo By Lucy Perry Indiana Central News  A federal prisoner has been charged with murder while he was incarcerated in Terre Haute. A federal grand jury returned an indictment Tuesday, charging  Lawrence Taylor, 41, with first degree murder at the  Federal Correctional Complex back in 2019. According to the Southern District of Indiana, Taylor was an inmate at the facility when he killed the victim "by stabbing him multiple times in the neck, face, chest and elsewhere with a metal weapon.." Taylor faces a maximum penalty of life imprisonment., if convicted. He is set to make an initial court appearance at a later date.

Vigo Co. woman dead in motorcycle crash

By Lucy Perry Indiana Central News A West Terre Haute woman is dead after an early morning crash on a motorcycle Tuesday.  The driver, Connie Hylman, was pronounced dead at the scene.  Emergency crews responded to the fatal crash in the 3600 block of Old Paris Road in western Vigo County around 4 a.m. Vigo County Sheriff John Plasse said the driver lost control of the motorcycle and struck a utility pole.  Hylman/ Facebook photo
