An armed Terre Haute m an was arrested for allegedly battering a woman at a residence on the city's north side Saturday morning, after police say she had confronted him about taking money intended for the children.

Treyveon Q. Ashley, 26, was booked into the Vigo County Jail around noon. He is facing several felony charges, including: domestic battery in the presence of child, criminal recklessness, theft of firearm, intimidation, invasion of privacy and pointing a firearm.

Terre Haute Police Department officers were dispatched to the home in the 2400 block of Garfield Avenue around 11:30 a.m. According to scanner traffic at the time, the suspect was allegedly walking inside the residence with a gun in his hand. Two young children were reportedly inside at the time, as well.

Officials with the department said the situation could have ended worse, but quick-acting officers at the scene resolved it peacefully.

According to the THPD, "dispatch informed officers that the male had remarked that the gun was for the police when they arrived."

The first officer at the scene located the gun-wielding suspect upon arrival. That's when Ashley allegedly pointed the handgun at the officer, as he was moving for cover. The suspect then backed away briefly, just before surrendering -- tossing the gun down. He was taken into custody without further incident, according to police.
