Two women are dead after officials say the SUV they were traveling crossed the path of a a semi truck just south of Terre Haute Thursday afternoon.
Vigo County Sheriff John Plasse explained Friday that the passenger of that vehicle, Emma Haddox, 84, of Paris , Ill., was dead at the scene. The driver, not yet identified, was sent via medical helicopter to Methodist Hospital In Indianapolis, where she died a short time later.
Emergency crews responded to the fatal crash around 2;30 p.m., just north of the Springhill Drive intersection. The victims' vehicle was struck and went spinning off the roadway, coming to a rest at the KFC restaurant parking lot.
The driver of the SUV reportedly was attempting to cross the northbound lanes of S. US 41, and into a business parking lot to the east.
"The SUV failed to yield the-right-of way to a northbound semi tractor-trailer." Plasse added.
The truck driver, James Wood, 61, of Bloomingdale, Ind., was not injured. Mandatory drug and alcohol test results are pending at this time.
