Traffic stop lands man in jail on drug and gun charges

SULLIVAN COUNTY - A Linton man was arrested on drug and gun charges after a traffic stop in Sullivan County Tuesday night.

  Barry W. St John, 66, was booked into the Sullivan County Jail and charged with:

  • Possession of methamphetamine, Level 3 felony
  • Possession of Schedule I controlled substance, Level 6 felony (2 counts)
  • Serious violent felon in possession of firearm, Level 4 felony (2 counts)
  • Operating vehicle while intoxicated (refusal), Class A misdemeanor
  • Possession of marijuana, Class B misdemeanor

According to Sgt. Matt Ames, an Indiana State Police trooper stopped the 2003 Buick for an equipment violation on County Road 890 South near County Road 600 East just after 9:30 p.m.


During conversation with St John, criminal indicators were detected, and a search of the vehicle was conducted -- which yielded methamphetamine, marijuana, heroin, LSD, and two handguns. It was also determined that the suspect is convicted felon.
