Traffic stop for expired plates lands two in jail on drug charges

Two suspects were arrested on drug charges following a traffic stop on Terre Haute's north side Wednesday evening.

Booked into the Vigo County Jail :

-  The driver, Thomas Boatman, 51, of Clinton:

  • Possession of methamphetamine prior conviction, Felony 5
  • Possession of methamphetamine, Felony 6
  • Possession of cocaine, Felony 6
  • Possession of marijuana, Class B Misdemeanor 
  • Possession of paraphernalia, Class A Misdemeanor 

-  A passenger, Eric Wise, 47, of Terre Haute:

  • Possession of methamphetamine, Felony 6

Indiana State Police Sgt. Matt Ames explained that a trooper was patrolling near Second Avenue and N. 24th Street around 5 p.m., when he stopped a vehicle for an expired license plate. 

Because suspicious activity was detected, a search of the vehicle was conducted, Ames said, noting that marijuana, paraphernalia, cocaine and methamphetamine were discovered at that time.
