Traffic stop for expired plates lands two in jail on drug charges

Two suspects were arrested on drug charges following a traffic stop on Terre Haute's north side Wednesday evening.

Booked into the Vigo County Jail :

-  The driver, Thomas Boatman, 51, of Clinton:

  • Possession of methamphetamine prior conviction, Felony 5
  • Possession of methamphetamine, Felony 6
  • Possession of cocaine, Felony 6
  • Possession of marijuana, Class B Misdemeanor 
  • Possession of paraphernalia, Class A Misdemeanor 

-  A passenger, Eric Wise, 47, of Terre Haute:

  • Possession of methamphetamine, Felony 6

Indiana State Police Sgt. Matt Ames explained that a trooper was patrolling near Second Avenue and N. 24th Street around 5 p.m., when he stopped a vehicle for an expired license plate. 

Because suspicious activity was detected, a search of the vehicle was conducted, Ames said, noting that marijuana, paraphernalia, cocaine and methamphetamine were discovered at that time.

By Lucy Perry  Indiana Central News A Terre Haute man was sentenced to more than 15 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm in a drug trafficking case.  Matthew Beeler, 32,was sentenced for his part in the recent drug trafficking case, according to a press release Thursday from United States Department of Justice -Southern District of Indiana. Police say man was angry with son when he fired shots at his home

By Lucy Perry Indiana Central News A Terre Haute man was taken into custody after police say he fired multiple shots into a relative's home and vehicle early Sunday morning. John Lyman Jr., 49, was booked into the Vigo County Jail a short time later. He is charged with charged with: burglary while armed with a deadly weapon; burglary of a dwelling; criminal recklessness; and intimidation using a deadly weapon. Terre Haute Police Department officers were dispatched to the residence located in the area of Blakely and Wabash Avenues on a call for shots fired, just before 6 a.m. The suspect reportedly had fled the scene prior to police arrival and was located later on. According to the report, officers allege the victim’s father had fired multiple rounds into the victim’s home. They say shots were fired through an entry door and a bedroom window of the residence. Well-being check ends deadly in Vigo County after officer fires once at resident allegedly pointing rifle

Lucy Perry photos  By Lucy Perry Indiana Central News A reportedly armed and suicidal man was killed by an officer conducting a well-being check at his southern Vigo County residence late Wednesday afternoon. James Dockery, 45, of Terre Haute, was pronounced dead at the scene. He suffered from a gunshot wound. According to Sgt. Matt Ames, of the Indiana State Police, an off-duty Vigo County Sheriff's Office deputy initially responded to the home at  7479 S. Carlisle St.  just before 5 p.m., where he  found the seemingly distressed individual. Attempts were made to communicate with Dockery at that time.  A short time later, an on-duty deputy arrived to assist at the scene and quickly observed that Dockery had guns in his possession, Ames said. The on-duty deputy,  Sgt.
