Cheesman/Vigo Co. Jail

A Terre Haute man on ordered to be on house arrest reportedly had cut off his ankle bracelet and escaped earlier this week before being recaptured by police Thursday.

Anthony W. Cheesman, 40, was booked into the Vigo County Jail after a two-hour long standoff.

According to the report, family members said Cheesman --- who was serving time on home detention for drug charges at the time of his escape -- was armed and going to commit “suicide by cop.”

Ultimately, members of the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force located Cheeseman at 1647 6th Ave., where he was barricaded in an upstairs attic space.

The THPD Special Response Team assisted at the scene. A search warrant was executed and Cheesman was taken into custody and transported to the jail, where he is held on active arrest warrants.
