Man arrested after allegedly threatening to shoot residents at West TH house

WEST TERRE HAUTE - A Vigo County man was arrested following a standoff in West Terre Haute Friday evening.

Derrick B. Johnson, 56, was ultimately booked into the Vigo County Jail around 11 p.m. He is charged with felony intimidation and resisting law enforcement.

Just after 5 p.m., deputies were called to 5051 Old Paris Road on a report that the suspect had gone into a residence and was threatening to shoot the occupants.

Sheriff John Plasse explained that the suspect was not cooperating with officers' orders to exit the house.

"Shortly after deputies arrived, all occupants of the residence were able to get out, leaving only the suspect, Deputies attempted to get Johnson to come out of the residence, but he refused,"Plasse said. He added that the Terre Haute Police Department Special Response Team assisted at the scene and were able to take the man into custody.
