Court documents do not provide a clear motive for the shooting that took place at the Davis Park  Elementary School playground in Terre Haute, just after 9:30 p.m. They do, however, show that the two had communicated about meeting at that location.

According to the probable cause affidavit, filed by Detective Julia Piety, of the Terre Haute Police Department, several juvenile witnesses said they were playing a game of basketball with the victim at the school prior to the shooting.  The suspect showed up there just as their game ended. The witnesses noticed  the victim had addressed him as "Kole," as he was walking up to them. The two reportedly shook hands. All seemed well.

All was not well.

Gunshots were fired as the the juveniles said they were exiting the court, according to the affidavit.

They reportedly had turned to look back, when they actually saw the suspect shoot the victim in the chest.

The victim was able to get back up on his feet after falling to the ground. The suspect allegedly continued to fire at the victim as he then ran for his life, as did the others.  The injured victim was found later, just east of the school.

According to the documents, the suspect and victim had met when they had previously worked together. Further investigation revealed that the two had continued communicating by text messaging and on social media platforms.  In a Snapchat message, detectives say the suspect was found to have just basically told the victim to meet him at S. 18th and Poplar Streets. That is the location of the school, where the shooting took place.

The young witnesses were able to give detectives a good description of the suspect. He was described as wearing a black bucket -style hat, having shaggy, dirty blonde - colored hair. They said he was wearing a pink jacket. Surveillance video from the school, as well as nearby residences, confirmed the suspect's appearance.
