Federal inmate accused of first degree murder at Terre Haute prison

 A federal prisoner has been charged with murder while he was incarcerated in Terre Haute.

A federal grand jury returned an indictment Tuesday, charging Lawrence Taylor, 41, with first degree murder at the Federal Correctional Complex back in 2019.

According to the Southern District of Indiana, Taylor was an inmate at the facility when he killed the victim "by stabbing him multiple times in the neck, face, chest and elsewhere with a metal weapon.."

Taylor faces a maximum penalty of life imprisonment., if convicted. He is set to make an initial court appearance at a later date.

Kaleb Long, 24, of Terre Haute, died shortly after being transported to a local hospital, just after 7 p.m.  Sgt. Well-being check ends deadly in Vigo County after officer fires once at resident allegedly pointing rifle

Lucy Perry photos  By Lucy Perry Indiana Central News A reportedly armed and suicidal man was killed by an officer conducting a well-being check at his southern Vigo County residence late Wednesday afternoon. James Dockery, 45, of Terre Haute, was pronounced dead at the scene. He suffered from a gunshot wound. According to Sgt. Matt Ames, of the Indiana State Police, an off-duty Vigo County Sheriff's Office deputy initially responded to the home at  7479 S. Carlisle St.  just before 5 p.m., where he  found the seemingly distressed individual. Attempts were made to communicate with Dockery at that time.  A short time later, an on-duty deputy arrived to assist at the scene and quickly observed that Dockery had guns in his possession, Ames said. The on-duty deputy,  Sgt. Terre Haute man sentenced in federal drug trafficking case

By Lucy Perry  Indiana Central News A Terre Haute man was sentenced to more than 15 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm in a drug trafficking case.  Matthew Beeler, 32,was sentenced for his part in the recent drug trafficking case, according to a press release Thursday from United States Department of Justice -Southern District of Indiana. He will be on probation for five years following his sentence of    183 months in prison.  In November 2020, emergency crews responded to a report of a possible heroin overdose involving several people at a Terre Haute residence. While responding, Terre Haute Police Department officers located drugs, guns and various other items associated with trafficking throughout the home.   Beeler and another individual were reportedly found unresponsive at the scene.
